In this episode of Sailing Nandji, Bonita's old man was a painter for many years in his younger days and the apple does not fall far from the tree! Bonita gets busy making Nandji beautiful in every hidy hole and paints the bilge in the saloon. After Yosh wet sanded back the hull, Bonita takes it upon herself to keep the painting going and primes up the hull ready for the new coats of antifoul, this proving she is a painters daughter. With some damage done to the topsides, Yosh gets on a scooter and rides 3 hours across Thailand to collect some paint and then turns around and rides back again! A Scooter mission from hell!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we are fresh back to Nandji after a trip home to Australia for Christmas. It is a great feeling too be back on our sailboat after being away, Nandji truly is our home. Wasting no time, the very next day we haul out Nandji at Port Takola marina in Krabi province, Thailand. We plan to complete a bunch of small jobs including some electric repairs and installs, bottom paint, prop love and paint the bilge in the saloon. 2020 was shaping to be a massive year for us as we planned to sail across the Indian Ocean. Having no where to complete maintenance along the way, this visit to the boat yard was to prepare Nandji for the years travel ahead. So we haul out our home in Thailand. Let the boat work begin!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the final task of boatyard boatwork gets done as we sand back and re antifoul the hull of Nandji. This is a filthy and tiring job but lucky for us we have spent many hours previously preparing the hull and sanding back and fixing areas meaning this time around, the task was kind of easy! Then after a few little dramas before lifting time, we manage to get everything in order and be put back in the water. Will everything work? I HOPE SO!!!! Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. The rewarding feeling of completing this boat work and returning to the water in 2 months is a feeling that will not be forgotten any time soon. The sheer relief of floating and the motor working is a feeling that will stay with us for a very long time. Nandji is unstoppable!!!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we say good bye to Uncle! The seasons are changing and he wants to get into Indonesia for the surf season before the weather turns bad. Such a legend and we are so very grateful that he has spent the last 2 months with us helping to upgrade Nandji. Before Uncle goes, he helps us to fibreglass in our cockpit floor again and re install the helm to make Nandji ready to sail once again. Our Sailboat Refit is nearly complete and this is the second to last job that needs to be completed before we can go back in the water. We have lived 9 long months without a fridge, yep NO FRIDGE! Our toilet has always been something that we are not happy with as it draws lots of power and is generally not a nice item to fix, therefore, we get a new one! We install the fridge and remove the old head to install the new shiny throne. Playing the game of thrones on a boat is something new. This toilet is a prize winning piece of engineering though and can be installed basically anywhere! For more information about the toilet or our new fridge head over to the Our Gear page.
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we finish off the upgrades to the bow. When we first arrived to the boatyard and were in destruction mode, we ripped up the front deck and removed all the rot and the old useless windlass. We have since re-laid the deck and fibreglassed up a solid bow ready for the new additions. I designed a new bow roller for Nandji and we install this piece of engineering genius! I designed and adjusted the pulpit hand railing and we install our new anchor windlass. Our bow is covered in shiny new stainless steel and looks amazing with the new paint job underneath!! Steadily NAndji is getting closer to splash day in a weeks time. Still lots to complete of course but we will have Nandji ready for the drink in time. Exciting times to be nearing the day of going back into the water. We have invested everything into our loved Nandji to complete these upgrades and make her better than a brand new boat!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we make Nandji Sparkle! We have completed some major work to our vessel to make her safer, stronger, sail faster and be able to motor... Now it is time to make her look a million bucks! Getting your boat painted by the professionals is an expensive task. Generally you would not see much change from 10 boat bucks (10k) It is a long and tedious task to make your vessel look great but all the work is revealed in the long run with the final coats. The more prep you complete, the better the finish will be. Having an Uncle involved always helps! There were over 200 mn hours invested into the topsides of Nandji. Round and around Uncle went filling and fairing then sanding with his orbital sander. When ever I was busy doing a one man job on Nandji, Uncle would be outside filling and fairing Nandji. He has put in a mammoth effort and Nandji looks damn fine now! There are only a few tiny blemishes in the paint work that you need to be up close next to Nandji looking for them. In the words of the GOAT, If anyone is within 10 feet of your boat then their too f%$#ing close!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we hear the first breathes of our NEW Engine Fang. After running the final hoses and connecting the power, we fill up the engine with all the oils and liquids required before kicking Fang over for the first time. Lets hear this baby Purr! This was a monumental day for Nandji as all our hard work is really starting to take shape. Installing this new engine has been challenging but so very rewarding at the same time. We have never tackled a task this big before, in fact we had never installed an engine into anything before, so it was a huge task and a massive learning curve we have nearly completed. Wait til you hear this baby purr... Beautiful.
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the day has finally arrived where we install our NEW Engine Fang. We had been waiting on a new stern tube to be made and sent from Australia, so have been occupying our time with other major refitting jobs on Nandji. With this now installed we could book in the crane and get our NEW Engine installed. The feeling of accomplishment we felt this day was truly amazing. After dealing with so much hassle and struggle to reach Langkawi, going through the hard yards of removing Old Smoky and the mess she left behind, to now installing and positioning our new engine, it has all been worth it. We are so very thankful and excited by what lies ahead. Hopefully more time of stress less cruising, less time fixing things and more time enjoying the sailing life! Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean.
