In this episode, life with Tallula our daughter has become normal but our life of living in an apartment is far from it! The city of Penang has served its purpose during these difficult times. We have had to endure lockdowns in a small apartment, all whilst being pregnant in a foreign country and now having our daughter abroad. The city of Penang has housed us well and we will always be thankful for what has happened here, but it is time to get out of the city and get back to Nandji!! Let's pack up our lives once again and travel across the country of Malaysia!
In this episode, we have left Nandji high and dry in the boatyard, patiently waiting our return. Malaysian interstate borders had been shut for weeks and with covid restrictions briefly easing, we took the opportunity to move closer to the hospital while we could. January saw a second wave of covid infections across Malaysia, prompting borders to be closed again, shops shut and a new lockdown to begin. Unable to return to Australia to be with family during this time has been difficult as we are now alone in a foreign city expecting our first child. BUT, together as a family this is just another obstacle to overcome. We are thankful the hospital is close by and we have a fancy home on land to call home for now. One month disappears as we patiently wait to become parents.
In this episode, with Nandji on the hardstand and not ready to be launched, we need to pack her up and move closer to the hospital. Bonita is now 9 months pregnant and the baby could come any day. With the hospital a 3 hour drive away, we move overland to the city of Penang. Due to Australia's tough and expensive restrictions and the fact it being near impossible to get a flight into the the country, we have had to think how and where we are going to have our baby. With great health care in the city of Penang, Malaysia, we decided this would be our place. Away from friends and family and alone in this new city, times can be difficult. Together we can face any obstacle and this is a new challenge for our family to overcome.
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrived to the city of Penang, Malaysia in search for a doctor and hospital where we are going to have our first child. Arriving to the city a few days early, it is the perfect excuse to go and explore this historical city. After looking at the same scenery for months on end, the bustling modern city of Penang was a welcome change. Penang is an old Colonial town with a very old section called Georgetown. This century old area became run down and derelect over years of neglect but back in 2008 it became a world heritage site. Tourism brought money and the city was revived and renovated. The old buildings restored and street art became a focal attraction to tell the story of the historical city. Penang was also voted by trip advisor, the foodie capital of the world, so with such a mix of cultures and cuisine, lets treat our selves to some of the local dishes.
