SAILING WITH CELEBRITIES! Ep 278

Surfing with the G.O.A.T. Kelly Slater!! A childhood dream come true!

In this episode, we have been anchored up behind an island near Macaroni's resort in the Mentawai islands, enjoying our time in paradise as a monster swell hits the islands. Yosh was out for his morning surf and blabbering away to someone random, when he turned and right there in front of him was his childhood hero. Kelly Slater. Continuing our journey south through the archipelago, Kelly is not done yet and wants to see Nandji in all her glory so the captain of his vessel decides to try and run us down!!! We safely arrive into the last village and port of call before heading off to our atoll destination. Trying to find the last few supplies before the great adventure into the middle of no where! The town has limited food supplies, except Durian! The most disgusting and stinky fruit going around!!!

HUGE MISTAKE IN SOLITUDE! ? I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE DID THIS . Ep 277

In this episode, we are anchored up in one of the best anchorages we have ever been in. Protected from all the elements and a short tender ride through an amazing mangrove chain to a world class surfing wave! This is as close to paradise as we could ever find! With a huge swell inbound, Yosh needs his big boy pants! Learning that there was a crocodile spotted in the mangroves, us Australians can not resist ourselves and go searching for this elusive crocodile. After hours of searching we thought it wasn't going to happen, then all of a sudden!!!!

In this episode, we are sailing north through thew West Sumatran Islands of Indonesia on our way to the Telos Islands. Sailing with an 11 month old baby onboard has its difficulties but it also comes with great rewards. We discover an amazing little island too good to pass up and have to stop to check it out. With a 3 day sailing passage, this is how we sail with a baby!

THIS IS WHY WE SAIL!! What an Adventure!! ?‍♂️ W Max & Occy, Ep 257

In this episode, we are deep in the Mentawai islands living out our dreams. Because of the state of the world these days, this area is so quite and removed from any outside tourism. The islands are scarce, the beaches are quite and the waves are pumping and empty. Places that used to have charter boats and surf camp guests are now non existent and Max and I are enjoying these waves all to ourselves. Then another sailboat arrives. More young crew and more fun to be had! When two sailboats are travelling in the same direction, you are not racing, but really you are!!!!

That's a Wrap! Onto the NEXT Chapter! | Sailing Indonesia, Ep 157

12/24/2019

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we spend our last days in Indonesia. We search the Banda Aceh area for one last surf before we clear out of the country in Sabang. Sabang is the most north western tip of Indonesia and the same port we cleared into Indonesia a long 5 months ago. We have enjoyed our time exploring West Sumatra and the island chains off the coast, but it is time to keep moving and prepare for the next big adventure in 2020! Sad to sail away from Indonesia, our spirits are raised when the biggest pod of Dolphins we have seen in Indonesia greet us for our departure. A glassy smooth sea and thousands of Dolphins, a great way to begin our passage to Thailand!

With Yosh's birthday around the corner he is determined to head south and surf a new wave he has dreamt about for years. MY FIRST SOLO SAIL | Sailing Indonesia, Ep 145

9/17/2019

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, Yosh is left alone on Nandji to fend for himself for a couple of days whilst Bonita goes deep in the jungle to live with a Mentawai tribe. She is 100nm away from Nandji so Yosh heads offshore on his first ever solo sail! With strong relentless trade winds and big choppy seas, it is a challenging and rough sail across the passage from Padang, West Sumatra to Siberut Island in the Mentawai archipelago.

I have always wanted to attempt a solo sail and finally the time had come where I had the opportunity. I have always really enjoyed challenging myself and the awesome feeling you have once you achieve your goal. I knew I was in for a bit of ride in this first ever solo sail as the weather was not ideal. But smooth seas do not make a better sailor! It poses the question of is a solo sailor crazy before he leaves or goes crazy at sea? Guess it is time to find out!!

Living the Hammock Life | Sailing Indonesia Ep 143

8/30/2019

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we spend the last few days with our friends from home onboard. Whilst the lads are out surfing, the girls are tired of standing behind the cameras and make their own fun, living the hammock life! Bonita and Tash are taken to the playful wave of Bengs Bengs to try and get a few amongst the masses. We then have a minor problem where the captain did not prepare the boat properly before leaving... What a good excuse to have a beach bomb fire and cook in the coals with our last night with friends on board before over night sail back to Padang to drop Tash and Teebs off to the airport.

    Captain Yosh

So I'm not overly cleaver when it comes to linking words together. I make up words and use slang more to confuse people in thinking that I know a great deal about nothing. See I just confused myself... But this blog is about our journey in living outside of the square that society expects us to follow. We like to run our own race, that way we always win.
