In this episode of Sailing Nandji, manoeuvring Nandji around other vessels has always been challenging and as we rarely spend time in marina's, it always get me nervous. Marina's are always tight quarters surrounded by expensive things you do not want to crash into! Making our way out of the pen and into the haul out cradle, all my worries were pout to rest as we place Nandji on the hard stand and begin our second major refit in preparation for the new crew member who will be here before we know it! We move everything off of Nandji and let the boat work begin! We plan to complete a major overhaul and upgrade to Nandji's living quarters. Removing everything from Nandji and starting from scratch!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive to the marina and prepare for the coming weeks of work. After safely mooring up to the jetty, we have a stroll around the boat yard and the reality of what is about to come really begins to set in. I am not sure if I am ready for this! Maybe it is the new place giving me nerves, maybe I just don't want to start more boat work projects. However, if we like it or not, baby is coming and now is the time to get Nandji ready for the future with the baby spud! Full steam ahead, let's gut Nandji!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, after exploring the beautiful city of Penang and checking out hospitals and doctors for the new spud, we figured we wanted to prepare Nandji for the next adventure. With limited boat yards in Malaysia, we have to explore all our options, including the local fishing vessel yard... With a green light to haul out in the coming days, we leave the city and the fancy marina and head to sea. Penang is connected to the mainland by 2 very long bridges and Nandji has only passed under a few bridges so the novelty of this was amusing. Clear of the bridges and back into the Malacca straits, we up wind sail through the day and night to get south to the boatyard. Bonita continually grows rounder and due to covid restrictions tightening around the country, this could be the last sail as a duo. Baby is coming and the nesting begins!!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrived to the city of Penang, Malaysia in search for a doctor and hospital where we are going to have our first child. Arriving to the city a few days early, it is the perfect excuse to go and explore this historical city. After looking at the same scenery for months on end, the bustling modern city of Penang was a welcome change. Penang is an old Colonial town with a very old section called Georgetown. This century old area became run down and derelect over years of neglect but back in 2008 it became a world heritage site. Tourism brought money and the city was revived and renovated. The old buildings restored and street art became a focal attraction to tell the story of the historical city. Penang was also voted by trip advisor, the foodie capital of the world, so with such a mix of cultures and cuisine, lets treat our selves to some of the local dishes.
