This bad boy is what keeps the water on the outside of Nandji. It is very easy to install but you have to be out of the water to install it. The seal is created by the smooth stainless rotor attached to the shaft. This rotates with the shaft and applies pressure against the stationary carbon bellow. This creates the water tight seal.
As the shaft rotates, it needs lubrication, this is from sea water that comes up through the stern tube and around the cutlass bearing. The barb fitting on top of the shaft seal, is then plumbed above the water line to ensure that there is always water lubricating the shaft.
We are very happy with this product and it is working great!
