With a strict lockdown looming, we need to get out! Let's go sailing! In this episode, we narrowly escape the regulations and head out for a shakedown sail before strict lockdown rules are implied to the country. We want to get out of the confinements of the marina and be at anchor where life is more normal. With strict regulations coming into play at mid night, we take the opportunity to head out for further sea trials of Nandji in preparation for leaving Malaysia soon. We want to test out all the systems on Nandji and make sure she is ready for the long journey ahead, sailing back to Australia.
Nandji is going back to where she belongs!! It has been a long journey to reach this point of Nandji going back in the water. We have had a baby and completed some major boat works to make our boat a beautiful home for the future years of sailing. When covid hit, we decided to stay with our boat and our dog to have our first born baby overseas. The unknown of leaving these two behind, was not fathomable. It has been difficult a decision to deal with, add many many hours of hardwork, constant visa issues and the potential we were being kicked out... We now have a beautiful daughter and a vessel that floats!!! All those long days in the boat yard on a grinder, all those litres of sweat dripping off my nose, all seem like distant memories as we reach this major mile stone in cruising once again. SPLASH DAY!! WOOOOOO!
Given 30 days to leave the country, and we are not ready to leave. With everything against us, we have a stroke of fortune.... You just never know who is watching... In this episode, the unthinkable happens... We had been given a 30 day extension on our expired visa to leave Malaysia. Nandji is on the hardstand, our daughter is yet to have travel documents and then there is Marley... Flights home are continually cancelled, all the countries around us are expensive to enter, but our boat is not ready to sail.... It is heads down bums up busy to get Nandji ready for what ever is to happen at the end of this 30 days. We are not ready to leave, but you never know who is watching your videos....
In this episode, we have gone full circle and arrive back at Nandji with our baby daughter Tallula. We are very thankful for the city of Penang and providing us a safe place during these difficlut times to have our daughter, but the city life wore thin a very long time ago and it is back to Nandji we go! Loading up the car and making the 3 hour drive back to Nandji felt like a massive milestone and standing at Nandji with Tallula in my arms was a very rewarding feeling. Time to finish off Nandji and get sailing!!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive to the marina and prepare for the coming weeks of work. After safely mooring up to the jetty, we have a stroll around the boat yard and the reality of what is about to come really begins to set in. I am not sure if I am ready for this! Maybe it is the new place giving me nerves, maybe I just don't want to start more boat work projects. However, if we like it or not, baby is coming and now is the time to get Nandji ready for the future with the baby spud! Full steam ahead, let's gut Nandji!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, after exploring the beautiful city of Penang and checking out hospitals and doctors for the new spud, we figured we wanted to prepare Nandji for the next adventure. With limited boat yards in Malaysia, we have to explore all our options, including the local fishing vessel yard... With a green light to haul out in the coming days, we leave the city and the fancy marina and head to sea. Penang is connected to the mainland by 2 very long bridges and Nandji has only passed under a few bridges so the novelty of this was amusing. Clear of the bridges and back into the Malacca straits, we up wind sail through the day and night to get south to the boatyard. Bonita continually grows rounder and due to covid restrictions tightening around the country, this could be the last sail as a duo. Baby is coming and the nesting begins!!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we are on the move again! After a solid 6 long months of being around the island of Langkawi, we are free to mve inter province around Malaysia. We are in search of a better healthcare for our new baby and learnt that the city of Penang was the place to be. With a 70 nautical mile sail to reach the island city, we set off to sea once again, sailing towards that endless horizon. Langkawi has been a safe harbour for us during these crazy times but it is one amazing feeling to see it disappear in our wake. Onwards to the next chapter!
