The Quest for the PERFECT Paint job | Sailboat Refit 2, Ep 217

2/17/2021

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we have been renovating downstairs and painting areas white. I have completed all the prep and applied the first top coat, but it is time to complete the project and make the white walls look immaculate. I like to make things as best as they can be to the skills I have and believe not to cut corners, but to put the effort in to make a beautiful finished result. This is one reason why the davits has frustrated me so much... But I have control of the outcome of the white walls and as this is the first thing you see when you head downstairs, it has to be perfect. But as I quote Bonita's old man once again "That's about as good as you're gonna get it" He was a painter for 20 years too! With the white walls complete, the transformation really takes shape with the layers of varnish beginning. The key to making varnish look good is layers. Sanding between each application and then applying another layer. Over and over and over. The goal of reaching at least 7 layers should do it 👌

Replacing the Cutlass bearing WITHOUT SWEARING!! | Sailboat Refit 2, Ep 215

2/2/2021

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, after our little reef scenario early in 2020 we had some issues that still needed fixing. We discovered that the shaft was bent and needed straightening, which in turn rapidly wore out our cutlass bearing. After removing the drive system and cutlass bearing months ago, the new cutlass finally arrived in the post. Without a machine to press the cutlass in, I get creative and Macguiver that puppy home.

BUSTING DOWN & BUILDING a BULKHEAD!! | Sailboat Refit 2, Ep 211

1/5/2021

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, I have been busy renovating the downstairs interior and came across some rot in the rear back bulk head. The best thing to do is rip it out and start again! Things always get worse before they get better and bashing in this rotted wood and removing the fibreglass was a dirty job, lucky Bonita never saw me do it! Replacing the old with fresh wood and fibreglassing it in, I decorated the inside with the strip planks to match the rest of the boat and when we paint it all next week, it will look amazing.

BIGGEST BLOKE MOVE!! Who need's a Manual... | Sailboat Refit 2, Ep 208

12/16/2020

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, it is time to do some investigation work. After our little reef incident earlier in the year, we have discovered a few under lying issues that have been coming too light. One of those being the cutlass bearing wore rapidly and needs replacing. Since we have a Sigma drive, the alignment is all okay and therefore I think Nandji has a bent shaft. To find this out I must pull apart the entire drive system of Nandji to find out. This involves removing the rudder, releasing the sigma drive, removing the shaft and then taking off the prop so the shaft can be put in a lathe to see how bad it is...

THE DESTRUCTION PHASE! | Sailboat Refit 2, Ep 207

12/7/2020

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the destruction phase is fully under way! Nandji's interior was insulated with a marine carpet on the walls. Whilst it is probably a good insulator, it looks shocking and gets dirty, so it is time to renovate and modernise Nandji. After the reef incident earlier in the year, 2 major problems have since risen. One being the cutlass bearing is worn and wore out rapidly, suggesting a bent shaft. The second the Hydrovane self steering is loose and caused damage to the transom. Both pretty big jobs and needed to be fixed!

I DON"T THINK I AM READY FOR THIS! Ep 205

11/23/2020

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive to the marina and prepare for the coming weeks of work. After safely mooring up to the jetty, we have a stroll around the boat yard and the reality of what is about to come really begins to set in. I am not sure if I am ready for this! Maybe it is the new place giving me nerves, maybe I just don't want to start more boat work projects. However, if we like it or not, baby is coming and now is the time to get Nandji ready for the future with the baby spud! Full steam ahead, let's gut Nandji!

Preparing our Yacht to Cross Oceans | Sailing Thailand, Ep 174

4/27/2020

This video was filmed early Febuary before the global pandemic really took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves.

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive back to Chalong bay on the south coast of Thailand to complete some more boat jobs to prepare our yacht to cross oceans. We only recently left the boat yard in Krabi and after a great down wind sail, we are back to Phuket where we can readily find everything we need to finish off the niggling jobs at anchor. Our departure date is approaching fast and we need to stock up on engine spares ready for the year of sailing that lied ahead. We cruise around Phuket on the scooter collecting the necessary items and complete some of those jobs off the list like painting the bilge in the V-berth, installing harness points and up grading the running rigging on the mainsail.

YACHT LIFE: Its WAY more than just Sailing! | Boat maintenance, Ep 172

4/9/2020

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we illustrate how Yacht life is way more than just sailing! We hauled out for some general maintenance and a few little upgrades in order for oour planned massive year of sailing in 2020. Little did we know that the world would be rocked by the current crisis. We were fresh off the plane and back to Nandji and ready to get Nandji back in the water to set sail. The final days in the boatyard see me do a touch up paint job on the top sides and Bonita anti fouls the butt and we are back into the drink, returning to our natural habitat! The boat maintenance is done, lets go have some fun!
