In this episode, we rip ore old stuff out of Nandji and throw it over the side. We rewind back to a month ago when Nandji was still on the hard stand and we were deep in fixing mode. But you can not do an oven install and not have a cook up with it!! So once the oven is installed, we fast forward back to present time during our shakedown sail and Bonita does a little cook up!! Having a working cooker and oven is essential. A device that gimbles and holds the food on top is something Nandji has previously lacked. I can not believe Bonita went 4 years with only one burner that works! Now we can cook up a storm!!

The Decks needed a serious upgrade, Time to Redo the Deck with Kiwi Grip... This was a bad one!! In this episode, we take a little step back in time to when Nandji was still high and dry on the hard stand. We first painted the decks with kiwi grip back in 2017, before we departed Australia. I also completed a massive deck repair back when I knew nothing about fibreglassing.... I say it a lot in our videos, there are great repair jobs on Nandji, and there are shit ones. This one I did was shocking!! 😂So a quick fix up and repaint the entire boat with kiwi grip to bring everything up fresh and flush! Every man is proud of their Deck!
Nandji is going back to where she belongs!! It has been a long journey to reach this point of Nandji going back in the water. We have had a baby and completed some major boat works to make our boat a beautiful home for the future years of sailing. When covid hit, we decided to stay with our boat and our dog to have our first born baby overseas. The unknown of leaving these two behind, was not fathomable. It has been difficult a decision to deal with, add many many hours of hardwork, constant visa issues and the potential we were being kicked out... We now have a beautiful daughter and a vessel that floats!!! All those long days in the boat yard on a grinder, all those litres of sweat dripping off my nose, all seem like distant memories as we reach this major mile stone in cruising once again. SPLASH DAY!! WOOOOOO!
In this episode, Nandji is getting closer to splash day. The major keel work is complete and the bottom has been painted with a barrier coat ready for anti fouling. With only 5 days until splash day, we decide to drill a huge hole in the boat!! Ever since buying Nandji, we have steadily been upgrading her as we continue to sail. One area that we have just been "making do" with, has been the way we gauge the depth of the water below Nandji. Our depth sounder was ancient and it worked 30% of the time. This making life a little more difficult than it should be!! But not anymore!!!
This is what Boat yard nightmares are made of... Fixing the Keel... In this episode, Nandji brings on a potential worst nightmare... Sitting too long on the hard stand, the lead/steel weight of the keel has oxidised, causing rust and the fibreglass to delaminate. How far down the rabbit hole do we travel... If you are going to do a job right, you do it right the first time. After juggling any thoughts and short cuts in my mind, I do what I know should do and cut it all off (half the keel) and ay up new fibreglass. A job I do not want to repeat any time soon.
In this episode, Nandji has gone back to where she belongs, in the water!! It has been a long road to reach this point, lots of hard work, lots of stress and lots of determination to be able to sail away from Malaysia. We have been fortunate enough that our host country decided to extend our visas, giving us plenty of time to prepare for what lies ahead. Lets recap on the all boat work that was completed in this short time frame since Tallula was born and we have been back on Nandji. Beginning with the first job of installing new port light in the aft cabin to stop all the water leaks!
Given 30 days to leave the country, and we are not ready to leave. With everything against us, we have a stroke of fortune.... You just never know who is watching... In this episode, the unthinkable happens... We had been given a 30 day extension on our expired visa to leave Malaysia. Nandji is on the hardstand, our daughter is yet to have travel documents and then there is Marley... Flights home are continually cancelled, all the countries around us are expensive to enter, but our boat is not ready to sail.... It is heads down bums up busy to get Nandji ready for what ever is to happen at the end of this 30 days. We are not ready to leave, but you never know who is watching your videos....
In this episode, it is time to lay it all out and make a plan. We have 25 days left to get everything in order and then off we go, but to where... I have been labouring hard on Nandji to get her ready to sail to destination unknown. It is time to evaluate all our options and give you a run down of what we are faced with. Everything is going to cost big bucks, no matter what we do. Let's try to make the right decision and live with it.
