We have sailed back into Phuket Thailand so we can utilise the skilled tradesman and to finally finish off our new boat refit. When we bought Nandji II, she was not really set up as a live aboard vessel but more a boat suited to shore power and running the generator all day. To make Nandji 2 ready for extensive off grid living, all of this had to change. Lithium batteries installed, charger/invertor installed, solar charge controllers installed and now to complete this electrical upgrade, its time to install solar power! It has been a long year of boat work but we are seeing the light at the end are excited to be sailing off into the wilderness again soon!
Boat life can be truly amazing, sometimes we just need a little reminder We are on our way back to Thailand to finish off this refit once and for all! To find the inspiration we need for this last bit of boat work, we need to take some time to relax, enjoy the boat, enjoy our surroundings and do a few other things we do to have fun. Luckily, the forecast turned it on and with a couple of beautiful weather days ahead, we took the opportunity to finally stop in an anchorage and enjoy our surroundings. Go for a snorkel, spearfish, cook a BBQ and just chill as a family in a beautiful location. It was truly bliss and a great reminder why we live on a boat.
Ever since purchasing our new sailboat, she has been a work in progress. We have moved off her twice and lived on land so we can complete some major upgrades and much needed maintenance. Finally the time has come where we can start to make our new boat into a home.
Installing a NEW Lithium battery house bank plus all the bells and whistles for a smart boat with unlimited power! Our new boat whilst being more comfortable than our last, it is also more elaborate and techinical than OG Nandji. The power situation was really set up for either being plugged into shore power or running a generator 24/7. To be a complete cruising boat, this needs to change. We want to live offgrid for extensive amounts of time and not have to worry about battery charge or power. This is why we install a new charger/invertor and a HUGE lithium battery bank.
SEND IT! Finally we can really open up our NEW BOAT and see how fast she can go! WE WERE IMPRESSED!! After ripping the boom vang out of the mast, we haven't had the opportunity to really test out how good at sailing our new boat is. With all the recent engine upgrades and repairs complete, we are setting off once more on a 140 nautical mile sail down to Pangkor marina to collect some more items for the new boat! With some light conditions on day one, we sailed as a cutter rig to windward and enjoyed the smooth fast sailing. The folowing day a building sea and stronger winds aft of the beam, meant we were flying and sailing into the double digits!!

Being stuck in a marina completing boat work is not much fun. A 2 day job taking 12 does not get the happy vibes flowing either... To now have the new engine mounts and coupling installed, we are free again! Let's see if the upgrade was worth it! Life at anchor is so much happier, being stuck with a disabled boat really makes you down in the dumps. Being confined to a marina amplifies those feelings. To now have the engine upgrades finished we are back to life at anchor as we prepare to sail south for more boatwork.

With a disabled boat we are stuck in the marina completing some much needed maintenance to the engine and drive system. After the changing of the engine mounts took up the last 2 weeks of our lives, the alignment and coupling change to a Sigma drive was setting up to be a challenge. Sailing is not all Rainbows and lollipops... With a little persistence, perseverance and a flame thrower... the old coupling came off and we could install the Sigma drive from Brunton's. This one of the BEST upgrades you can do to your sailboat.
